Position Overview: Supervises operations on a daily basis, ensuring internal and external customer requirements are achieved.  Calculates related job parameters, including pressure required, materials, equipment and capabilities.  Makes recommendations in regard to procedures, equipment, job design and job execution. 

This is a safety sensitive position.

 

Reports to: Area Manager, Area Superintendent, Area Supervisor or Operations Manager

 

Directs Reports: Operators, Relief Operators, Floorhands, and Derrickhands

 

Major duties:

  • Manages the operations on the job site from electric line, slick line, cementing, tubing and casing pulling, power tongs, casing jacks, tree removal and all associated tools needed for the job task
  • Coordinates work assignments between Operations Manager/Supervisor and assigned crew members.
  • Diagnoses and correctly solves problems with limited Operations Manager assistance
  • Supervises and leads less experienced crew members and maintains high levels of morale among crew members
  • Mentors less experience crew members in conducting required equipment maintenance including routine maintenance on engine and pumps packages
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of all regulations regarding permanent well plugging requirements
  • Performs calculations used to determine cement plug volumes based on information obtained from wellbore schematics, well work procedures, or well files with limited supervision
  • Performs fluid displacement measurements and accurate counts the volume of fluids pumped
  • Enforces safety for each operation in accordance with the Basic’s to Success (BTS) guidelines and regulatory requirements
  • Review and approve other reports related to payroll, expense accounts, vehicle reports, and government reports (i.e. OSHA, DOT)
  • Provide training for new hires and continuously instruct crews on proper operating procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • 2+ years’ experience in Plugging and Abandonment operations with at least one year in supervisory role
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business documents, professional journals, technical procedures and/or government regulations
  • Valid driver license and acceptable MVR
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals and effectively communicate/present information and/or respond to questions from managers, customers and general public
  • Advanced mathematical skills with ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, ratios, percentages and proportions to practical situations
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written , oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse group including customers, managers, contractors and well service personnel
  • Ability to work independently in an environment under pressure in emergency situations and where priorities change quickly

 

Preferred:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education
  • Basic computer skills
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Mobility, including entering confined spaces, enter areas by the use of ladders or other access devices up to 115’; ability to bend, stoop, twist, stand, squat, climb, crawl and walk, and long periods of standing or sitting
  • Ability to work outdoors under extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to travel to various job locations as well as to meetings, conferences and seminars
  • Ability to stay out of town, possibly several weeks at a time

 

Typical working conditions and hazards:

  • Significant amount of required driving time
  • Work is performed in all weather conditions
  • Able to perform duties with protective equipment, H2S respirator where required
  • Potential hazards include working near or with heavy tools and moving machinery
  • Potential exposure to loud noises, airborne toxins, solvents, flammable atmospheres and industrial chemicals
